"Guaria Morada" (Cattleya skinneri), a purple orchid. It was designated the National Flower of Costa Rica on 15th of June, 1939. Reverse: Allegory scene of Teatro Nacional (mural painting by Aleardo J. Villa, 1897), also known as the “Allegory of coffee and banana” (Alegoría del café y el banano), which decorates the ceiling of the National Theater in San Jose. Watermark: Sadly, none. Security features: Two consecutively running red horizontal serial numbers on the obverse of the banknote. Visible to the eye coloured filament fibers (hairs) fluoresce under ultraviolet light.
